Rootedness

Water World The book of Psalms opens with a contrast between the righteous and the wicked.

The wicked are called sinners and scoffers and are described as chaff that the wind drives away. They are not secure. In contrast, the righteous are described as fruitful and prosperous, like trees planted by streams of water. They stand secure, both in earthly life and in the judgment.

The "route" to this "rootedness" is meditation on the law of the LORD. Law here is an inclusive term, referring to not only commandments and rules, but also the stories of God’s interaction with humans; it is the portrayal of God revealed in scripture.

Have you asked God for wisdom? If so, try following the Lord’s prescription for finding it: read and reflect on the Bible. Its treasures will surprise you. And like marrow to the bones or sap to the tree branch, its movement into your heart will shape you and make you wise.
