Presence

Moses Exodus 33: 14-17 - The Lord replied, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." Then Moses said to him, "If your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?" And the Lord said to Moses, 'I will do the very thing you have asked..."

Moses spent time talking to God in the tent of Meeting and upon the mountain. After being in the presence of God, he had to cover his face with a veil, for his face was so radiant that humans could not bear to look upon him. (Exodus 34: 35). God's glory and splendor is so powerful that after leaving his presence Moses' face still reflected that splendor.

2 Corinthians 17-18 says: "And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit."

Later in Exodus 33: 19, God reveals himself as one who has mercy and compassion. As we think of Jesus' life, we see that mercy and compassion were reflected in all of the miracles and teachings of Jesus.

Can the world tell that we belong to the living God? Do we have a shining reminder of His presence in our lives? When we spend time with Jesus in prayer, and allow him to transform us in his likeness, then Christ can shine through us into the darkness of those who do not know his light. God's presence is with us. Although we will not need to wear a veil to hide a shining face, we can have a shining heart that can be used to bring light where there is darkness, joy where there is sorrow, and love where there is hate.
