Touching and Healing
Early in his ministry as reported in the Gospel of Mark, Jesus is approached by a leper whom Jesus heals. The story, recorded in Mark 1:40-45, is literally touching, because Jesus reaches out his hand and touches the man before he commands the leprosy to leave. We need healing in so many ways. We ask for Jesus' help in one area of life, and He responds. But out of His deep compassion and even deeper understanding of our needs, He touches other areas, too. The leper, of course, had a decaying outer body. But he also had a diminishing inner self, because of the isolation imposed by his disease. Jesus' physical touch healed the inner need, and was a sign of promise, of well-being, of restored relationships, of wholeness to come. Be bold to bring your need to Jesus. Tell Him what you think you want done for you. He will always choose to reach out, to touch you, to provide what you need, and to heal you, whether you know it or not. Thank you, Lord Jesus. |
